W ciągu miliardów lat historii Ziemi zachodziły poważne zmiany w jej wyglądzie, zarówno pionowym - wypiętrzanie i niszczenie masywów górskich, jak i poziomym - układ kontynentów. 

Badaniem zmian zachodzących w litosferze i na jej powierzchni zajmuje się geologia historyczna. Przyjmuje ona zasadę, że zjawiska i procesy geologiczne mające miejsce w przeszłości są odzwierciedlone we współcześnie odnalezionych skamieniałościach. Pozwalają one bardzo precyzyjnie określić wiek skał – zarówno bezwzględny, jak i względny. Na podstawie badań skał w miarę precyzyjnie określono bezwzględny wiek Ziemi na ok. 4,6 miliarda lat. 

Spróbujmy więc wejść w rolę geologów i odtworzyć dzieje Ziemi wykonując poniższe zadania.
